The programme was flagged off by raising balloons near the hospital premise by chief Guest Honorable Tourism Minister ShriGoutam Deb, BDO of Matigara, SiliguriSmtRunu Roy & Divisional Commissioner of JalpaiguriMr.Barun Ray who were special guest on the occasion.
Participants from Society, eminent clubs of Siliguri, participated in the Walkathon. Dr.RajeshNanda, Cardiologist of NeotiaGetwel Healthcare Centre was also present during the occasion to create awareness related to Heart Diseases.
World Heart Day is World Heart Federation’s (and the world’s) biggest platform for raising awareness about cardiovascular disease. Getwel Walkathon is a yearly heart awareness event of Neotia Getwel Multispecialty Hospital, this year the walkathon stepped in its 2ndyear. The main purpose of the walkathon is to encourage and recognize the necessity of embracing healthy living in today’s everyday life for a healthy heart, establish the importance of doing regular exercise and increasing ones fitness level.
Unhealthy eating habits and sedentary lifestyleare major factors thought to influence susceptibility to many diseases, as even youngsters aren’t sparred nowadays. Stress, smoking, alcoholdrinking, as well as lack ofexercisemay increase the risk of developing heart ailments, high blood pressure.
The event was organized to mark World Heart Day which falls on 29th September 2017 &create awareness against the growing trend of cardiovascular diseases.
