Neotia Getwel Multispecialty Hospital has always shown skills and efficiency in performing high end laparoscopic surgeries with successful outcome and thus, meeting the expectations of the ever increasing need for surgical treatment and wellbeing in this region. Recently a 27 years old young man from Birpara, Alipurduar got admitted at NNeotia Getwel Multispecialty Hospital with severe Necrotizing Pancreatitis with 16 – 17 cm huge cyst and severe pain in abdomen.
He was suffering from this rare type of disease since last 6 months. He consulted in other places but didn’t get any assurance from anywhere regarding treatment. Later he got to know about Dr. Bijendra Kr. Sinha, Sr. Consultant – Minimal Access, GI & Bariatric Surgeon at Neotia Getwel Multispecialty Hospital, Siliguri and came for an OPD consultation. Dr. Sinha after consultation suggested him for Laparoscopic Roux-En-Y Pancreatic Cystojejunostomy or complete laparoscopic surgical removal of the pancreas cyst and gall bladder removal surgery. For the first time ever such high end laparoscopic surgery took place in this entire region.
The pancreas is a large and very vital organ behind the stomach that produces hormones and enzymes that help digest food. Pancreatic cysts are saclike pockets formed after pancreatitis. In his case the small intestine was divided laparoscopically and the distal limb of the small intestine got connected to the cyst and the proximal intestine got connected to the distal loop of small intestine that too laparoscopically.
The entire surgery went on for 2 and half hour and the cyst on the pancreas was removed successfully leading to survive the rest of the pancreas in a good condition. The entire surgery took 2 and half hour. The man even got discharged from hospital on the 5th day of the surgery. He is now doing well and is living a normal & healthy life.
“Pancreatic cysts can usually be managed conservatively as many of these can be resolved without intervention. But when they develop complications they require surgical drainage. Laparoscopic surgical drainage still remains the gold-standard. Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y cystojejunostomy for pancreas cyst was done on the young boy with satisfactory clinical outcome which helped survive his rest of pancreas”, said Dr. Bijendra Kr. Sinha who operated the boy at Neota Getwel, Siliguri. Dr. Sinha who was formerly associated with FMRI, Delhi & Max Hospital, Gurgaon holds high expertise on similar kind of advanced and complex laparoscopic, minimal access, GI and bariatric weigh loss surgeries.
