Neotia Getwel Successfully performs Scarless Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Surgery on a 25 year old girl with acute the gall bladder infection with stone.

-For the first time ever Scarless Gallstone Removal Surgery Performed in Siliguri.

A 25 years old young lady from Kishanganj, Bihar with gall stone was successfully treated at Neotia Getwel Healthcare Centre, Siliguri with Scarless Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. The lady was diagnosed with gallbladder stone of 7.2. mm causing severe pain in the abdomen for which she needed an urgent surgical consultation. Few days ago she came from Kishanganj to Siliguri to meet Dr. Bijendra Kumar Sinha, Sr. Consultant – GI, Minimal Access & Bariatric Surgeon for an OPD consultation. But she was not ready either for open surgery or for multiple scar laparoscopic surgery as she had high blood sugar level and catching infections was her real concern.  Thus, she was counselled about the latest and advanced gall stone removal procedure, scarless laparoscopic cholecystectomy also known as Single Incision Lap Cholecystectomy (SILS).

She got admitted on 27th January, 2021 for surgical removal of the gall stone. On the day of admission she was prepared for OT. Her high blood sugar level was taken under control by the multidisciplinary team approach of consultants. She successfully underwent the scarless laparoscopic cholecystectomy by Dr. Bijendra Kr. Sinha and got discharged on the very next day of surgery.

Unlike the multiport laparoscopic gallstone removal surgery which conventionally needs four cuts and needs more time to recover fully, scarless laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a newer and advanced procedure which has included no visible scars as the laparoscope is inserted through the umbilicus (belly button). A small incision of 12 mm is made deep within the belly button to remove the gallbladder and sealed using special medical grade waterproof glue, eliminating the need for stitches. Also, this technique doesn’t involve any usage of metal clipping. “Since the young lady was admitted with high blood sugar, we had to take care about infections she could get during the surgery. Thus, we did scarless laparoscopic cholecystectomy to avoid multiple incisions which could take longer time to heal and could also potentially lead to post-surgical infection”, said Dr. Bijendra Kumar Sinha who was formerly associated with Fortis & Max Hospital, Gurgaon.

Neotia Getwel Healthcare Centre has a complete Minimal Access, Bariatric, GI & General Surgery department performing wide range of minimal access, laparoscopic general, GI & Bariatric surgery successfully in this region. “I was suffering from severe pain in abdomen due to the gallstone since so long but was also scared of incisions.  Once I was counselled by Dr. Sinha regarding the scarless laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Neotia Getwel, I was really assured. After the surgery, I feel happy to see no scar or metal clip in my body”, said the young lady who just got discharged after the day of surgery.
