“In the world of modern developing Orthopedics and trauma the main goal is now a quick solution to get people back to normal lives following accidents or sports injuries .The days of taking it easy and resting have long gone.
We want patients to have a permanent solution from surgery and a quick return to pre-injury status .In my experience of 17 years as an Orthopaedic surgeon and 12 years in UK the emphasis was always early return to functional status.Whether it was a replacement of a joint or a complex fracture or reconstruction of a damaged ligament in the knee or shoulder early functional rehabilitation protecting the repair or reconstruction was paramount.
For example after an ACL reconstruction we would protect the knee but at the same time work on closed chain knee physio therapy and work on proprioception. After complex trauma we protect the fixation but mobilize the joints above and below so that they don’t get stiff. After a replacement early mobilisation and at the same time necessary precautions to protect the integrity of the replacement till the soft tissues healed enough to allow normal activity .
Balancing the patients daily needs whilst making them return to normalcy was the mantra.Advanced Orthopaedics demands aggressive physiotherapy patient education and good quality implants which we are trying to use for maximal patient benefit.”

“Sports medicine is an rapidly upcoming subspeciality of Orthopaedics, which deals with prevention, diagnosis , management and rehabilitation of sports and exercise related injuries.Besides sports injury , it also uses exercises and physical activity to prevent and manage chronic modern life style diseases like diabetes , hypertension and obesity .
Sports Medicine is typically a team work , comprising of Orthopedic surgeon as team leader , other important team members are nutritionist, physiotherapist and Psychologist .The team helps Athlete to attain highest level of performance and ,endurance , on the other hand helping nonathletic population to lead a healthier and physically active life style .
