World Hepatitis Day is observed on 28th July to honour Dr. Baruch Blumberg who discovered Hepatitis B virus and invented the vaccine as well. To raise awareness against viral Hepatitis especially Hepatitis B, NeotiaGetwel leads an awareness campaign through walk-a-thon and other awareness activities throughout the day in the hospital. This year, the theme of World Hepatitis Day was “We are not Waiting”whereas World health organization (WHO) adhered to the theme of ‘One Life, One Liver. With an aim to stepping forward towards the goal set by WHOin terms of eliminating Hepatitis B virus by the year 2030,several activitieswere conducted by NeotiaGetwel.
Walk-a-thonwas one of them and observed to be a step ahead towards achieving the gaol. Remarkable Presence of some renowned Doctors including Dr.NadeemParvez, Dr.ShankhaSen, Dr.Ayan Banerjee amongst others were also noticed. Staff from various departments including outpatient department (OPD), nursing, administration and others was gathered for the event at 7:00 AM at BaghajainPark. After the inauguration of the event, the rally started which ended at Ramakrishna Byamagar, Asharm Para. Entire day several events were arranged whole day including a training session for the nursing department by Dr.NadeemParvez at NeotiaGetwel with dedication and commitment to save lives.
On that day, at night a seminar was organized at Montana Vista for the doctors of Siliguri and surrounding areas. Dr.NadeemParvez was the speaker who elaborately discussed about the impact on the stigma and discrimination affecting people living with viral Hepatitis.
